Home > Blog

Treating yourself to a quality lunch on Southbank need not cost a small fortune. With the prices we have unearthed for you, you could lunch out in style once a week, every week, and not take a hit to the wallet, or the waistline for that matter!

This month we start with everyone’s perennial favourite, Southgate, which has been providing us with fine food and wine at a reasonable price for nearly 30 years.

La Camera Southgate is a light-filled, friendly lunch venue, with a distinctly Italian twist. Get there just before noon to secure a river view table. Between 11.15am and 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) you can enjoy $15, $20 and $25 lunch options of pasta, pizza, salad, risotto or mains.. The $20 and $25 specials also include a drink. http://www.lacamerasouthgate.c...

The Deck is something of a Southgate dining legend and you can enjoy its legendary food and service for as little as $29.50 p.p. for lunch Monday to Friday.   Their Pasta + Expresso lunch menu is inclusive of a coffee and is available between noon and 2.30pm. Just read some of these mouth-watering choices: Spaghetti alla chittara, local fish + shellfish, chilli, garlic, olive oil Maccheroni, pork + fennel sausage ragù, n’duja, pecorino Gnocchi alla Sorrentina. thedeckrestaurant.com.au

Bearbrass is right in the thronging heart of Southbank Promenade. Sit and watch the passing parade of pedestrians and boats, while enjoying a $20 lunch special, which includes a selected beer, cider, glass of wine, spirit or soft drink. Each day there are three specials to choose from. Their additional Wednesday special is pizza and a beer for $18, which gets you any of their pizzas and a pint of selected beer, cider, or glass of wine. bearbrass.com.au

Not to be outdone, just inside the main entrance to Southgate, Irish-themed pub P.J. O’Briens offers a selection of four weekday lunchtime selections for $20, which includes a pot of Furphy, a glass of wine, or soft drink. http://www.pjobriens.com.au/so...

Upstairs in Southgate, the German-themed Hophaus Euro Bar Bistro also offers $20 lunch specials, which  include a 300ml Storm larger or 150ml glass of house wine. On Mondays it’s an Angus cheeseburger or Fried chicken burger. Tuesday is a 250g Porterhouse Steak, fries, with bone marrow jus, and Wednesday’s special is Chicken Schnitzel with Haus Slaw, lemon, bone marrow jus. https://hophaus.com.au/

Southgate’s Pure South restaurant holds an iconic position overlooking the Yarra footbridge, but that is just the start of its appeal. The rest is in the Tasmanian sourced and inspired menu. How does pan-roasted Huon salmon, cauliflower, seaweed and red wine, followed by Anvers soft chocolate pave, smoked almond, plum, vanilla sound to you ? Well, it’s available on Pure South’s Table D’hote lunch menu weekdays between 12-3pm for just $39,. Or add a Robbins Island Wagyu pastrami, Pyengana cheddar, beetroot to make a 3 course lunch for $49.  puresouth.com.au
